Women

I love women.

I could describe their smooth skin
or gracious curves
and vivid eyes
but not all women are like that.

Do I mean to say I love beautiful women?
I certainly do.
But who says this one is more beautiful
than that one?

I do.

To be honest,
I’m a sucker for red heads.
And blondes.
And brunettes.

If a woman says she is beautiful
She’s probably right.
And if she gets close
I’ll certainly agree.

Fly on the Floor

I was watching a fly
the other day,
it was cold and slow
being swept with the broom
instead of flying away.

Was its life approaching the end?
I read that flies only live
twenty four hours
or maybe that was butterflies
it was a long time ago.

Still, the fly will soon die.
Did it find love? Another fly
or perhaps
A brownie crumb?
I don’t know what happiness is
for a fly
but I hope he found it.

Misfortune
Fortune favors the bold
but not the drunk
or the handicapped
they get left in the streets
picked up by
cops and prostitutes and
street cleaners
the worthless refuse of
a society that likes
to forget.

If anybody happened to notice, I haven’t posted in several days, so I’m quite backed up on poems. That is, unfortunately, the byproduct of having the Swine Flu and a computer virus, both of which hit the same day. I’ll be playing catch up for a while, but I’ll make it.

Oh, and I’m feeling better, so normalcy should resume tomorrow (hopefully).

Insomnia

I hear the train in the distance
a roar on the horizon
once the height of progress
now just something to keep me awake.

The shadows loom on the walls
dancing when cars go by
the headlights giving them life
for a fleeting and insincere moment.

The bed beside me is cold, empty
I’m alone in my solitude
yearning the sweet, sweet flesh
and relish of a female scent.

Candidly, I wait through my vigil
The sounds of life outside rare
Save the train
Passing through the night, a monument to the dead.

Monotony

They say repetitive motions
cause carpel tunnel
but I say it causes
death by monotony.

Doing the same thing
day after
day after
day after
day
is a symptom of insanity.

Every now and then a person
just needs to hit the brakes
change the tape
and drive down a road
never taken.

Goodbye, Grandfather

The train left and I was there
looking at my brothers,
our tears barely dried,
and wondering what the next step was.

To be cast off into the future
is a frightening experience
and makes you wonder
if everyone feels like that growing up.

But it happens to all of us
without fail
a bounty of childish feelings
blowing away with the wind.
